Rosina Kelly is a BFA student majoring in painting at National Art School.
Rosina’s practice is involved with the discovery of mystery through contemplation. Her paintings are sourced from images out of magazines which are altered through the painting process in an attempt to create a sense of ambiguity, at the same time exploring a reality detached from any potential pre-conceived meanings. The original imagery become the ‘seeds’ for her paintings, and through alternating between processes of drawing, photoshop and collage or painting straight on to the canvas these ‘seeds’ are taken out of context and changed, allowing for the original ideas to be reimagined with limitless possibilities. Through this process, an ambiguous painting emerges, one indeterminable, yet open for an infinite amount of meanings. Contemplation and meditation are key elements not only for the finished painting, but throughout the entire unpredictable and spontaneous process of making.
